Nyanza Petroleum Dealers Limited, the exclusive distributor of Pirelli tyres in Kenya, has embarked on a KES30m rebranding exercise. This follows a restructuring process that will expand the firm’s presence and services across the East African region.
Sandeep Shah, the company’s Managing Director, says the rebranding will result in the auto accessories company adopting a new corporate identity, logo and corporate colours. The firm also changes its business name to AutoXpress. “All external signage at our branch locations across the county and region will bear the new corporate look,” he said.
This new identity, Shah said, is borne out of the conviction that success in the future will be achieved mainly through a strategic approach in the company’s operations and marketing policy. “The new name, AutoXpress sums up what we promise to deliver to our customers, that is; fast, efficient and superior service,” added Shah.
As the company rebrands to adapt to an ever-dynamic regional business environment, it is also implementing new strategies that will ensure that the rebranding project becomes relevant to dynamic business needs. Some aspects of these strategies include providing quality services at affordable cost and expanding market share through increased branch network, with several new branches expected by the end of 2011.
"The opening of our new KES120m flagship outlet on Mombasa road, not only celebrates our achievement but also means that we are now able to provide a truly superior service with an identifiable difference,” said Shah. “The facility is undoubtedly the most modern and technically advanced in the region,” added the Managing Director. Nyanza Petroleum Dealers was established in 1958, and since then it has undergone significant metamorphosis. Initially the company operated as an Oil marketer based in Western Kenya with its headquarters in Kisumu. However, in the last 10 years, the company has refocused its attention to auto accessories, offering a broad range of products and services that include; Pirelli tyres, batteries, both lead-acid as well as maintenance free, and Rob’s Magic entire range of products from shock absorbers, springs to bushes.
More recently, the company has set up its own garage equipment division importing and distributing equipment and tools for fitment centres to cater for the needs of its own as well as the needs of its over 50 dealers countrywide.
Today, NPD prides itself as the market leader in Kenya in the tyre and wheel trade while commanding respectable market share in the battery and suspension business. It has its own network of nine well-equipped fitment centres countrywide backed by a large central ware-house in the industrial area of Nairobi carrying the widest product range and largest stock in the country. This network is staffed by just under 200 well-trained professionals. The firm has recently ventured into the regional market by setting up a modern centre in Rwanda.
