The hotly anticipated launch of Orange by Telkom Kenya was announced today at a gala ceremony presided over by the Vice President of Kenya, Hon. Kalonzo Musyoka.
The announcement follows Telkom Kenya’s landmark partnership of last December with France Telecom, one of the world’s leading telecommunications operators. Orange is now the commercial brand for the mobile, broadband and fixed plus services from Telkom Kenya.
The Vice President acknowledged France Telecom for its faith in the Kenyan economy at a challenging time, adding: “The investment and innovation that France Telecom is bringing to Telkom Kenya will create a national operator that we can proudly call Kenyan, which will supply both wananchi and businesses with a broad range of world class services. These and other investments in our ICT sector will take our nation a giant step closer towards transforming Kenya into an ICT hub for the region and attaining VISION 2030.”
New and Exciting Services
The launch of Orange is a key milestone in Telkom Kenya’s complete revamp which includes investment of over KES8bn (USD120m) on infrastructure and maintenance, as well as an additional investment of several billion shillings spent on in enhancing customer service and internal training. This means that customers will now experience the Orange brand, which is known worldwide for its refreshing, dynamic and straightforward appeal, whilst enjoying a uniquely integrated range of services.
Telkom Kenya’s broad range of exciting new services includes:
• Orange Fixed Plus – a new service from Orange which enables you to take your fixed line out of the house • Orange Broadband – genuine broadband offering the fastest speeds available in the country • Orange Mobile – a completely new GSM mobile phone service offering both pre-paid and post-paid packages • Telkom Fixed – a service which will remain under the company brand, Telkom Kenya • Offers tailored for business customers
Orange broadband and Orange mobile services will initially be available in Nairobi and Mombasa. The national roll out will cover all major cities by the end of the year giving 50% of the population access to these services.
A Uniquely Integrated Offer
Telkom Kenya is the only truly integrated telecommunications service provider in Kenya and the launch of Orange enables a unique offering: the first ever flat rate tariff for voice calls offering simplicity, convenience and cost savings to customers.
Dominique Saint Jean, Telkom Kenya’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) remarked: “By offering several relevant communications services in one package, we can deliver unrivalled value, simplifying the customer experience and ensuring Kenyans receive world class communications services at competitive prices.”
Kenyans can now simply call between Orange mobile, Orange fixed plus or Telkom Fixed for just KES7 per minute. Calls to the other mobile service providers will cost just KES14 per minute – significantly less than both the other suppliers’ “off network” calling costs. These affordable costs with the integrated offer are set to liberate Kenyans from worrying about “off network” and landline call charges from their mobiles. Similarly, SMSs from Orange mobile will always cost just KES3.50 per SMS to any mobile phone.
There is also a single integrated customer service point meaning one telephone number for queries about any Telkom Kenya or Orange services making life even simpler – just dial100 from any Telkom Kenya or Orange line. Value and Service
Whilst the services are affordable, the focus is firmly on value and service rather than price. At every opportunity, Telkom Kenya seeks to offer more to customers through Orange – be it through the ability to purchase bundles of SMSs at a discount, the KES50 bonus on activation of Orange mobile and Orange fixed plus or the unrivalled bandwidth of its new broadband service.
Putting People First
Orange stands out from others in the industry through its focus on using the latest technology as a means rather than an end to serve people’s needs. Dominique Saint-Jean explains, “Orange is a human brand, which seeks to touch people and to enrich their lives by providing simple communications solutions. Solutions which add value to every moment where people come together to share their experiences, thoughts, ideas and dreams and create a brighter future together. We believe that together we can do more.”
Bringing People Together
The celebrations to welcome Orange into the Kenyan market will be marked by the first ever carnival in Nairobi this Saturday 20th September. Artists and musicians on decorated floats will bring the streets of Nairobi to life, congregating at Uhuru Gardens where a spectacular show featuring Kenya’s favourite artists who will entertain tens of thousands for free.
