Pierre van der Hoven, CEO of Southern Africa Direct, will be addressing the E-Tourism East Africa Conference which takes place in Nairobi on 13 and 14 October 2008. He will be discussing the ways in which media convergence impacts global tourism and the current shift from traditional media forms to driving direct response through interaction with the market.
Southern Africa Direct is also an exhibitor at the E-Tourism conference, and will be available to discuss opportunities for sponsors and advertisers, as well as producers and filmmakers with relevant programming and content.
Southern Africa Direct is a free-to-air lifestyle and culture television channel which went on-air on the UK’s Sky digital broadcast platform on November 26th 2007 (Channel 270). Sky reaches over 9.5 million people in the UK and Ireland, and an estimated additional 5m in Europe.
This new channel is the world’s first 24/7 ‘Destination TV’ channel, providing an authentic and engaging information source for anyone interested in visiting or building commercial links with Southern Africa. Southern Africa Direct’s pioneering programming focuses on lifestyle and culture, travel, tourism and commerce, providing a gateway for UK viewers, whatever their interest in the region.
The objective of the channel is to become a valuable source of information on the region, especially in the build up to 2010 Soccer World Cup. Southern Africa Direct’s content focuses on the 25 African countries and Indian Ocean Islands below the equator. In order to create an engaging and unique viewing experience, Southern Africa Direct broadcasts TV programming that provides a full picture of all that the region has to offer and provides sponsors and advertisers with access to a uniquely targeted demographic.
Over the past 9 months, independent audience research shows that Southern Africa Direct has delivered an average of 120,000 people weekly, and 25,000 daily. Media research shows that the audience profile is predominantly (60 – 78%) within the affluent ABC1 category – this is between 20 and 30% higher than the average UK television audience profile.
As an integrated multi-platform destination marketing company Southern Africa Direct also has a website www.southernafricadirect.com which streams the live Sky TV feed globally, provides a video-on-demand service, destination guides, Google maps etc and provides links to travel products and other services and goods. The website provides an interactive platform that the TV viewers, and other internet users, can use to gather more information and interact as they wish.
Johannesburg-based Digital Sky Investments (Pty) Ltd is the sole and exclusive licensee responsible for securing content and marketing the channel in the Southern Africa region to advertisers.
