Kenya: Press Releases: Orange’s KES1 Tariff Permanent for Friends and Family

Nairobi, 10 December 2008 --- Due to popular demand, Telkom Kenya’s commercial brand Orange has answered the call of Kenyans by making its revolutionary KES1 rate part of the permanent prepaid tariff through its Family and Friends service.

The KES1 promotion which has been in the market for the past two months was launched to invite Kenyans to experience Orange. In the spirit of co-creation, Telkom Kenya also welcomed feedback from customers to enhance and develop its new GSM service. The offer which came to an end on 8 December received an overwhelming response with many applauding Telkom Kenya for the pocket-friendly gesture at a time of high living costs.

As of today, the KES1 calls on the Orange network will become part of the permanent prepaid tariff on the Friends & Family service. This service enables prepaid subscribers to choose up to 5 preferred Orange and Telkom Fixed numbers and continue paying the special KES1 per minute tariff, all day, every day. Making the KES1 call available through Family and Friends means that Orange Fixed Plus customers across the country can now also benefit from the lowest call charge ever.

Telkom Kenya’s CEO, Dominique Saint-Jean said: “We continuously strive to offer value and a quality service. We know that people will be getting in touch with their loved ones during the festive season and this timely price change will enable our customers to share moments with the ones they care across Kenya,” said Telkom Kenya CEO, Dominique Saint Jean.

The KES1 tariff applies to calls originating from Orange Mobile and Orange Fixed plus to any Orange or Telkom Fixed line. All on-net calls between Orange Mobile, Orange Fixed Plus and Telkom Fixed revert to KES7 and KES3 per minute during peak and off-peak hours respectively. Calls to other networks will cost KES14 and KES6 during peak and off-peak hours respectively. The Friends & Family service tariff drops from KES3.50 to KES1.

To subscribe to Family and Friends, Orange Mobile subscribers simply dial #123# to access the main menu, select ‘Family and Friends’ option and then proceed to register up to 5 Orange or Telkom Fixed numbers. Orange Fixed Plus customers should call 133 to proceed with the registration through a Customer Care agent.
