In this issue: Appointments to the Capital Markets Authority, the Central Agricultural Board, and the Witness Protection Unit, and an environmental impact assessment for the proposed Kilimapesa gold mining.
Appointments
The Finance Minister appointed Priscillah N. Komora and Mohammed Nyaoa as members of the Capital Markets Authority (CMA) for a period of three years, effective from 9 March 2009.
The Minister for Agriculture appointed John Masinde, Dr. Jason Makori N. Monda, Rachel C. Yegon, Jumutai Veronica Suter, Mishi Juma Khamis Moboko, and Musangi Jane Mutua as members of the Central Agricultural Board for a period of three years, effective from 16 March 2009. Michael Cherunya’s appointment was revoked.
The Minister for Agriculture also appointed Dr Ephraim A. Mukisira to be the Dirctor of the Kenya Agricultural Research Institute and to be the Secretary to the Board of Management of the same institutions for a period of three years, effective from 10 April 2009.
The Attorney General appoints Alice Osebe Ondieki as the Acting Head of the Witness Protection Unit., effective from 1 March 2009.
Environmental Impact Assessment for Proposed Kilimapesa Gold Mining The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) has received an environmental impact assessment for the proposed Kilimapesa gold mining (mining of ore and processing for gold extraction) in Lolgorian Area of Transmara District. The mining activities are currently confined to Kilimapesa Hill, but may be extended to Teng-Teng and Alpha Ray, within 2km distance from Lolgorian Township.
NEMA invites comments from members of the public within the next 30 days. The full report of the project is available at NEMA, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Environment and Mineral Resources, the Provincial Director of Environment in Rift Valley Province, and the District Environment Office in Trans Mara District.
