Nairobi, 20 May 2009 --- Telkom Kenya announced that its GSM service, Orange Mobile, has now reached the target of one million active subscribers within just eight months of launching. Orange Mobile launched as part of Telkom Kenya’s new commercial brand Orange in September 2008. Since then, it has shaken up the market with a strong focus on innovation, convergence and value.
Orange Mobile’s success has been driven by its value driven tariffs and unique products that bring families and friends together. Through its KES1 offer; per minute billing service; Hello Tunes (Caller Ring Back Tone) that enables consumers to share their favourite music and; the Thursday POA promotion that has a new surprise offer after every two Thursdays, Orange has continued to put consumers first.
From its stable home base of Telkom Kenya, Orange is offering this high level of reactivity, speed and flexibility by leveraging on the existing infrastructure that has enabled it to offer in eight months what has taken other operators years to deliver. To date, the company has invested over KES10bn on infrastructure and maintenance.
Another major milestone for Telkom Kenya is the recently launched Orange Business Services, a converged service supporting organizations in their fixed line, mobile, data and information technology requirements in one swoop. This service is currently the only one of its kind in Kenya and has established Telkom Kenya as the first and only integrated operator in Kenya.
