Appointments President Mwai Kibaki has appointed • Wanjuki Muchemi as the Solicitor General for a period of three years, with effect from 19 May 2009. • Abdi Adan Suleiman as the Chairman of the Kenya Meat Commission, for a period of three years. • John Kagema Mwangi as the Chairman of the Coffee Board of Kenya for a period of three years.
Collection of Trade Union Dues The Minister for Labour revokes the order published in Gazette Notice No. 4396, and orders every employer who employs five or more members of the Kenya Hotels and Allied Workers Union to deduct 2% of the gross pay of every month (but not exceeding KES150) from each employee’s wage, payable to the Kenya Hotels and Allied Workers Union, and KES50 from every trade union member employee, payable to the Central Organisation of Trade Unions (K).
NEMA Environmental Assessments The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) has received an environmental impact assessment for the implementation of a power generating plant for Timsales Ltd, located on the land of the existing lumbering factory of Timsales Ltd in Elburgon Division, Molo District, Rift Valley Province. Timsales propose to generate 1MW from biomass. From the same company, NEMA has also received an environmental impact assessment for the implementation of a storage facility for both petroleum and diesel, and for the installation of a gamma ray device.
NEMA has also received an environmental assessment for the implementation of the proposed Great Lakes Ports Limited container depot, intended to handle transit cargo for destined for Uganda, the Great Lakes region and Southern Sudan. It will be located in Miritini, north-west of mainland Mombasa.
Kenya Communications Commission (CCK) License Applications Gateway Teleocmmunications (Kenya) Ltd. has applied with the CCK for a license as network facility provider, and Daily Errands and Delivery Services Ltd. have applied for a license as intra-city postal/courier operator.
KPLC Fuel Surcharge Kenya Power and Lighting Company Ltd (KPLC) are giving notice that all prices for electrical energy specified in part II of the Schedule of Tariffs 2008 for Supply of Electricity will be subject to a fuel surcharge of plus 436 cents per kWh for all meter readings taken in May 2009.
