Nairobi, 27 January 2009 --- Telkom Kenya has unveiled an electronic top up service in a move to extend its availability and take its services closer to the customer. The service will be availed through PesaPoint, Telkom Kenya’s premier partner in pushing for electronic top ups through partner channels based on airtime pins.
The telecoms operator unveiled the service as part of its strategy to enhance the Orange brand customer experience by providing a convenient and friendly way of distributing and selling airtime. This service will serve to compliment the already existing airtime distribution through scratch cards. Electronic airtime vouchers can be purchased via PesaPoint ATMs countrywide and selected retail locations countrywide. The roll out will ensure that the service is available in PesaPoint’s network to include 110 ATMs and 75 POS locations. Initially, the new service will be available for ‘Pay-As-You-Go’ customers on Orange Mobile, Orange Fixed Plus and Telkom Fixed. Customers buying airtime on ATMs need to hold bank cards of one of PesaPoint’s 30 partner banks and 3 SACCOs; Mwalimu, Kilifi and Stima.
At the retail location, a customer will simply pay cash to the shop staff who will in turn print a top-up voucher which allows the customer to recharge his account as with existing scratch-cards. At the PesaPoint ATMs, Orange subscribers can top up for any amount between KES50 to KES1000 at any one time. Following a simple set of instructions, the customer then receives a voucher with a 12-digit PIN and instructions for how to load this into their account. There is no additional charge for purchase of Orange or Telkom Fixed airtime.
This new service follows Telkom Kenya’s recent announcement that its Orange Mobile network had hit the one million customer mark.
While unveiling the service, Dominique Saint – Jean, Telkom Kenya’s CEO commented: “We aim to broaden our airtime distribution networks in order to bring our services closer to our growing number of customers. We are launching a top up service which will serve to complement the conventional distribution networks that we already have in place across the country.”
Bernard Matthewman, PesaPoint Managing Director said: “Electronic distribution of airtime is a very efficient method of fulfilling customer needs and we are pleased to enhance our service by being able to offer airtime top up for Telkom Orange customers at our PesaPoint ATM and POS locations.’
The service will allow subscribers to top up at PesaPoint ATMs for any amount. Registered in 2005, PesaPoint, a local ATM and POS service, aims at providing all bank customers easy access to their funds at any time by setting up ATMs in convenient locations.
