Nairobi, 23 June 2009 --- Telkom Kenya today announced the launch of a new low cost tariff on their GSM network, Orange Mobile. The new Niaje tariff is simpler and more affordable –and will see Orange Mobile further expand their current 1m customer base.
On Niaje, Orange Mobile prepaid customers pay a simple rate of just Kshs 4/- per minute for on-net calls to Orange Mobile, Orange Fixed Plus and Telkom Fixed lines, and only KES8 per minute across networks, all day and all night. This makes Niaje the lowest cost tariff available on the market for both off net and on net calls. The new tariff will be live from midnight on Tuesday, 24 June 2009.
Previously, Orange Mobile prepaid customers paid KES7 per minute for on-net calls during peak hours and Kshs 3/- during off-peak hours, with off-net calls charged at KES14 during peak hours and KES6 during off-peak hours. This is a permanent tariff and not a promotional offer. In line with Orange’s simple and straightforward approach, there are no set up call charges or prefix codes- customers will automatically benefit from the new tariff as of midnight, Tuesday, 24 June 2009.
This landmark tariff will make Orange’s network even more affordable for customers and with its simplicity and enable them to manage their call charges with ease. With the costs of living continuing to rise, the timing of the offer couldn’t be better for Kenyan households.
Commenting on the revolutionary initiative, Telkom Kenya CEO, Dominique Saint Jean said:
“Our 1m mark confirmed to us that the demand for our Orange Mobile service was high and the rate at which our customer base was growing was truly incredible. Our new Niaje tariff is tailor-made to suit our Orange Mobile customers making communication simpler and more affordable.”
