Nairobi, 15 July 2009 --- The vision for the future of mobile communications is a fully interconnected world where citizens will access, create and use content to develop or enlighten various aspects of their lives e.g. business, farming, education and sport. Mobile communications has been recognized as the fastest growing and most effective technology known to date that enables individuals from all social, political and economic backgrounds participate in global affairs.
The World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Network of Global Councils is playing a pivotal role by providing a platform for African public and private sector leaders to participate in highlighting the catalyzing role of mobile communications in business and how it is stimulating growth needed to put Africa firmly on the path to prosperity. WEF under the supervision of Switzerland’s Federal Government is a Geneva-based non-profit foundation best known for its annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland which brings together top business leaders, international political leaders, selected intellectuals and journalists to discuss the most pressing issues facing the World including health and environment. The Network of Global Agenda Councils is a platform used by WEF to leverage its access to the very best of the world’s thought leaders to form and shape opinion on the foremost topics in the global arena. It plays a significant role in monitoring global issues and elaborating recommendations to address them. Each council comprises of 15-20 members and serves as an advisory board to the forum and other interested parties, such as governments and international organizations.
As a show of commitment to empowering African leaders, Professor Klaus Schwab, the Founder and Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum has appointed Nicholas Nesbitt, founder and CEO of KenCall, an established industry leader in the contact centre business, member of the Global Agenda Council on the future of mobile communications 2009.
In a letter signed by Professor Klaus Schwab, Nesbitt will also be joining 700 business and thought leaders from all over the World for a three-day inaugural summit on the Global Agenda in Dubai from 20 to 22 November, 2009. The leaders are drawn from academia, business, government and general society.
Participants of this interdisciplinary event will engage in interactive workshops and sessions to set priorities for the most compelling ideas for improving the state of the world – from groundbreaking areas of research to new and exciting developments to address the world’s challenges. The outcomes will be presented at the World Economic Forum Annual meeting to be held next year for further discussion and action.
Accepting the appointment, Nesbitt commented. Nesbitt, who is spearheading the local team lobbying for Kenya to host WEF in 2010, is a high-profile Kenyan businessman and a much sought-after public speaker and thought leader on Kenyan and outsourcing business affairs and is credited with founding and building KenCall to be the first most successful of Kenya’s business process outsourcing (BPO) and contact centre services providers.
