Radio Africa Ltd has entered the TV market with the announcement of the launch of two TV channels. The first, KISS TV, will be Kenya's first 24-hour entertainment channel, and will play local, African and international music videos. The channel will also provide entertainment, fashion and art news.
The new channel also introduces Africa's first ever free-to-air video on demand service that allows mobile subscribers to use their phones as remote controls to select the video they want to play through an onscreen menu. The videos are schedule for immediate play as viewers watch.'This is path breaking technology for this market and it certainly is a first timer on a free to air platform', said Patrick Quarcoo, Group CEO.
The second channel, CLASSIC TV, will be Kenya's first 24-hour movie channel showing Kenyan and African movies. It will showcase the highest quality Kenyan, Tanzanian and Nigerian movies and expand to include other African movies.
'We are committed to local content and this is the first time there is a real avenue to showcasing the work of local producers on a 24-hour basis. Local is not just patriotic, local is phenomenal - the audiences just love local content. That's what our research has led to to.'
The new TV channels will first air in Nairobi.
