Nairobi, 7 September 2009 --- Local telecommunications service provider Essar Telecom Kenya Limited’s yu branded mobile phone service has unveiled a new brand campaign to celebrate its nationwide coverage.
Speaking when he confirmed the unveiling of the new Nimeamua campaign, Essar Telecom Kenya Limited’s Chief Commercial Officer Kunal Ramteke described the communication campaign as one geared at celebrating Kenya and Kenyan people and how the yu network fits in with their lives. “This campaign is dubbed Nimeamua and embraces the positivity of Kenyan people” Kunal said. And added: “to celebrate our nationwide coverage, this campaign has been designed to radiate the warmth and diversity of the Kenyan people beyond the landmarks.”
The yu network will spend over Kshs200 million in its brand communications campaign from now until December, 2009. The new campaign which features a full Kenyan cast will be progressively transmitted via all the available media channels including print, broadcast and outdoor.
The new brand campaign dubbed “Nimeamua” and conceptualized by corporate communications house Ogilvy & Mather East Africa is expected to be progressively rolled out on all media avenues in coming weeks.
In what has been described as the fastest GSM network rollout speed in Africa, Essar Telecom Kenya has now confirmed the activation of 500 base transmitting stations (BTS) barely a year into the yu network launch. With more than 600,000 subscribers on its network, yu mobile continues to have the most affordable calling, sms and data rates in the country.
The firms nationwide coverage is expected to further spur its growth as subscribers will now be in a position to enjoy clear mobile calls and data services countrywide with a seamless coverage on the Mombasa-Nairobi-Busia highway and beyond.
Besides the network expansion, the yu network has also recently unveiled a variety of value added services geared at enhancing its subscribers’ experience. These include “Dunda” - a distinctive caller ring back tone service, which is unique in that it allows one to pick upto five tones for different people, as well as “Eneza” an electronic top-up service that is a completely paper-less transaction for loading airtime.
The network also has a convenient, unbundled data service allowing yu subscribers’ to pay for their data downloads as per consumption at the most affordable rate in the country.
Essar Telecom Kenya operates Kenya’s fourth GSM telephony licensee in Kenya under the brand “yu”. ETKL officially launched its services in late November 2008 and is regarded as the fastest growing telecom operators in Kenya.
