Nairobi, 23 November 2009 --- Listed telecoms operator Safaricom has made it a hat trick by bagging East Africa's most coveted corporate accolade for the third year running. Safaricom was declared East Africa's Most Respected Company on Saturday evening at a glittering ceremony bringing together the region's top business minds, CEOs and captains of industry,
The much-sought after trophy was received on behalf of Safaricom by Chief Commercial Officer Peter Arina. Safaricom CEO Michael Joseph exulted in the win, terming it a great honour for Safaricom and its staffers. "We are truly humbled by this recognition. It has been a tough year but we have remained true to our tried and tested mantra of constant innovation, customer responsiveness and strategic astuteness," said Mr. Joseph. "Respect is a delicate variable, especially when it comes from your peers, some of whom are competitors. This honour is a fitting reward to the efforts of all our staffers, partners and most important of all, customers. We thank you for placing us at the top," On the way to the award, Safaricom floored a competitive field to emerge tops. It was a good year for telecoms firms with MTN winning the national title in Uganda and Rwanda while Zain's Tanzanian operation won in that country. Kenyan firms that put up a strong show were EABL and Kenya Airways. Safaricom also won the Kenya Country award, which saw Kenya Airways coming in second ahead of East Africa Breweries Ltd. East Africa Most Respected Company Awards is organized by corporate consultancy boutique PricewaterhouseCoopers and multimedia company Nation Media Group and whose winners are determined by a comprehensive regional CEO survey.
