Nairobi, 02 February 2010 – Executives from the African continent now have the opportunity to join an internationally recognised business school in the neighbouring city of Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. INSEAD, the leading international business school, has announced it will launch its world renowned Executive MBA programme from its Abu Dhabi campus starting in the 2010/2011 academic year. This marks an important milestone for executive education in the region, and an indication of the growing importance of Africa in global executive education.
INSEAD will launch in Abu Dhabi a section of its Global Executive MBA (GEMBA) programme, which rose to 5th place in this year's Financial Times EMBA rankings. The GEMBA programme, now in its seventh year, is ranked among the best in the world.
Participants based in Kenya and neighbouring countries will be able to take core courses at the Abu Dhabi campus in the first half of the programme, and then integrate into a global group for several joint modules with GEMBA participants based in Europe and Asia.
‘The Middle East Global EMBA is a very globally-integrated programme, leveraging INSEAD’s campuses in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East,’ said Javier Gimeno, Dean of INSEAD’s EMBA programme. ‘It will provide an unmatched international experience in a central location for executives working in Africa. The Abu Dhabi section will join a network with participants from more than 40 nationalities. It is an innovative programme structure for executives, family business owners and entrepreneurs who wish to advance their management skills and broaden their horizons.’
INSEAD’s offering for the African continent is a significant milestone in the growth of higher education in the region, bringing a world class programme to a more convenient location and allowing participants to continue their work and optimise their travel.
The announcement also marks the expansion of INSEAD’s Africa Initiative to its Abu Dhabi campus, which aims to demystify Africa and support its efforts to create leaders with a global mindset who are able to operate across multiple cultures and geographies.
Many African countries are experiencing strong economic growth and receiving significant inward investment due to the opportunities being successfully deployed by African companies. INSEAD’s Africa Initiative will bring more African perspectives to the Executive MBA and Executive Education programmes by identifying and recruiting top talent from Africa. The Initiative will provide future business leaders with greater exposure to content relevant to business in Africa through case studies, speakers and events.
