G4S has today signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) as a key player in the Kenya Security Industry Association (KSIA) with the Administration Police (APs). The MOU is a partnership agreement between the cash security providers who are members of KSIA and the Administration Police. The signing of the MoU is a follow-up of a joint stakeholders meeting held in November 2009 to discuss the Cash-In-Transit industry operations, in particular security. The industry depends on the government for the supply of almost 600 armed escort officers. This follows the ministerial directive which was issued in 2007 following an attack on a Cash-In-Transit vehicle in Molo belonging to one of the suppliers in the industry. This directive has since been successful in deterring attacks of cash in transit. Following the joint consultative meeting between the government and KSIA, the cash security providers committed themselves to certain actions in partnership with the government to reduce the chances of attacks. The highlights of today’s MoU are:
- The adequate supply of Administration Police to meet armed security escort requirements for the industry. G4S as a major player depends on the government for this service in line with the ministerial directive.
- Vetted and dedicated administration police for Cash-in-Transit operations
- A joint training curriculum in line with Cash-in-Transit security and operations requirements
- Enhanced supervision
Today’s MoU is symbolic of G4S’ continued partnership with the government and the KSIA to ensure that the cash business operates in an enabling environment. This will ensure our customers continue to get reliable quality service. G4S thanks the Administration Police and the KSIA for their continued support.
