Serengeti Breweries Limited (SBL) and East African Breweries Limited (EABL) welcome today's announcement by the Tanzanian Fair Competition Commission (FCC), approving the acquisition of a majority interest in SBL by EABL subject to certain conditions. SBL and EABL are fully committed to working with the FCC to satisfy these conditions.
SBL is Tanzania's second largest brewer and the maker of the popular Premium Serengeti Lager. Through this important investment, EABL is committed to growing SBL’s portfolio and footprint in Tanzania and beyond. SBL will form an integral part of EABL's operations in East Africa.
EABL sees this deal as a partnership between EABL and SBL, and recognises the great achievements made by the management of SBL in growing the company and its brands. Together they believe that greater growth can be achieved by combining the expertise and strengths of the two businesses, thus delivering greater service and greater experiences for their consumers in Tanzania and across East Africa more widely. For example, following the signature of SBL and EABL’s distribution agreement, premium Serengeti lager has just been successfully launched in Uganda. SBL and EABL also share a deep commitment to contributing to local communities. Recent initiatives include the Mkuranga Water Project, the Moshi Optical Centre and the EABL Foundation’s university scholarship programme, which has helped over 15 students from Tanzania attend Dar es Salaam and Mzumbe Universities.
SBL and EABL look forward to working together to grow this great business and to continue their contribution to the economic and social development of the communities in which they operate.
