Nairobi, 29 April 2011 --- Following the firm’s first quarter business performance review, leading retail chain Nakumatt Holdings has reviewed some of its branch operating hours to ensure optimum business performance. Speaking when he confirmed the stores’ restructuring, Nakumatt Holdings Managing Director Atul shah explained that some of the affected branches have suffered from low customer footage outside regular operating hours necessitating the operating times review. The business restructuring, Shah assured, will only affect branch opening and closing hours for a total of four branches and no other business aspect will be affected.
Commencing 1 May, Shah disclosed, two Nakumatt Hypermarkets, Nakumatt Lifestyle and Nakumatt Ngong Road, will start operating on extended shopping hours and will no longer operate as 24-hour outlets. Nakumatt Lifestyle will now open at 7am and close at 10pm while Nakumatt Ngong Road (Prestige Plaza) will now open at 6am and close at midnight. On the other hand, the Nakumatt Team Leader disclosed, Nairobi’s Nakumatt Moi Avenue supermarket that has previously operated as a regular shopping hours branch will now operate as a round-the-clock outlet. In Eldoret, Nakumatt Household Branch he said has also reverted to a 24-hour branch while Nakumatt Eldocentre hyper will now operate as a regular hours branch. All other round-the-clock branches, including Nairobi’s Nakumatt Mega and Nakumatt Ukay, Mombasa’s Nakumatt Cinemax, and Kisumu’s Nakumatt Nyanza, will continue operating round the clock while all other branch opening and closing hours remain unaffected.
“Following, our first quarter business performance review, we have opted to review our store opening and closing hours to ensure optimum resource utilization and do apologise to our esteemed customers for the inadvertent inconvenience that this move may occasion,” Shah regretted. “As a responsible cost conscious business, we have found it prudent to restructure and rationalise our operations to enable us improve on our operating performance.” In Kenya, Nakumatt currently operates a branch network of 28 stores across some of Kenya’s major towns. Nakumatt Holdings also enjoys a regional branch footprint across Uganda and Rwanda. This year, Nakumatt Holdings will also be proceeding full steam with its regional expansion plans to enter the Tanzanian market via a branch in Moshi while expanding its presence in Kigali, Rwanda. The supermarket chain, Shah discloses, will this year be on course to establish its presence in both Tanzania and Burundi as part of its regional coverage plans. Besides the regional coverage plans, this year will also see the chain returning to its Nakuru cradle. Nakumatt Holdings will also be pushing hard to close the year with new branches in Kiambu Road, Nairobi, Nakuru, and Malindi.
