Nairobi, 17 October --- Today, Google has announced the launch of Google Trader, as part of its commitment to driving the web forward in Kenya, and highlighting the entrepreneurial opportunities presented by the internet. Trader is a free online classifieds service that allows Kenyans to buy and sell products and services, as well as search for jobs or just about anything else.
Are you looking for a job as a mechanical engineer in Nairobi? Do you need to buy a truck for your new business? Or perhaps you want to sell your sofa set because you’ve decided to get a new one? Whether you’re looking for houses to rent in your neighbourhood, a second hand car, a book for your personal library, or even a few metres of kitenge, Trader has thousands of products and services available in your local area.
Trader can be used by anyone in Kenya, but is expected to have the biggest uptake in major towns and cities across the country. Individuals can post short ads to buy and sell items and services, whilst businesses of any size can also use the site to reach more customers and increase their sales.
Olga Arara-Kimani, Google Kenya Country Manager said: “The launch of Google Trader in Kenya will go a long way in simplifying buying and selling. By offering this free and easy to use service across the web and mobile web platforms, we aim to make the service as accessible to as many Kenyans as possible.”
Google’s mission in Africa is to make the internet relevant and improve the online ecosystem, and the launch of Google Trader will encourage the creation of locally relevant information online.
