As somone who works (albiet indirectly) for AFRICOM, I have grown more than tired of the uninformed, knee-jerk hysterical tirades against its very existence. If one believes that the US should have no military presence in the world, fair enough. Otherwise, Africa deserves it's own COCOM. Actually, I would advocate the use of "US military" rather than "AFRICOM" when it is being discussed, as noone refers to CENTCOM when discussing Afghanistan or Iraq, or PACOM when discussing Korea.
