			<description>I appreciated reading this thoughtful, measured piece. As somone who works (albiet indirectly) for AFRICOM, I have grown more than tired of the uninformed, knee-jerk hysterical tirades against its very existence. If one believes that the US should have no military presence in the world, fair enough. Otherwise, Africa deserves it's own COCOM. Actually, I would advocate the use of &quot;US military&quot; rather than &quot;AFRICOM&quot; when it is being discussed, as noone refers to CENTCOM when discussing Afghanistan or Iraq, or PACOM when discussing Korea.

Regardless, this article was refreshing to read. - Steven Costello</description>
