Kenya: Outgoing Kenya Airways CEO Appointed to Chair RVR Board
Monday, 11 August 2014
Qalaa Holdings, formerly Citadel Capital, have appointed outgoing Kenya Airways CEO Titus Naikuni as the chairman of the Rift Valley Railways (RVR). Probably a smart decision: Naikuni does not only have extensive transport and logistics experience, but is also very well connected in Kenya’s corporate and government sector.

RVR are halfway through their USD287m rehabilitation, modernisation and expansion programme initiated in January 2012, but the Government of Kenya is ostensibly pushing ahead with its plans to build a parallel standard-gauge railway. The World Bank analysed the different options that the Government of Kenya could pursue and unsurprisingly came to the conclusion that building a new railway would be the least attractive option.
